conducted by Nice University Hospital, and more specifically by the CALISSON Reference Center for Mitochondrial Diseases from Childhood to Adulthood, which is part of the national network of expertise on these pathologies.
Objective: To evaluate the effect of a personalized home-based training program (endurance and strength training) in patients with mitochondrial myopathy who are still mobile and can commit for one year.
The positive effects of physical activity on health are generating significant international interest and are being developed within national programs. Guidelines exist, but must be adapted for patients with functional activity limitations. Patients with mitochondrial diseases exhibit exercise intolerance, with increased muscle weakness and fatigue after a low volume of exercise. These patients have functional activity limitations. To establish a suitable training program, it is important to define and consider physical fitness.
Researchers hypothesize that a personalized, home-based, mixed training program (endurance and muscle strengthening), followed by a video consultation, has positive effects on certain physical criteria (such as muscle strength, exercise tolerance, and functional capacities) without increasing heteroplasmy and creatine phosphokinase levels.
