Stimulating Mitochondria to Combat Cognitive Disorders

Neurodegenerative Diseases: What if Mitochondria Hold the Key?

Researchers from Inserm and the NeuroCentre Magendie (Bordeaux) published a fascinating study in August 2025: they successfully stimulated mitochondrial activity in the brains of aged mice.

Using an innovative molecular tool called mitoDREADD-Gs, they were able to enhance energy production in neurons and observed a significant improvement in memory and brain plasticity.

Although these results are currently limited to animal studies, they pave the way for a new generation of mitochondrial therapies to combat neurodegeneration.
